Ancient Reports: Survival Ideas and Tips and Tricks
Bog Mud, or just Mud:
Sunscreen and protection against harsh elements and heat:
" Chimantou warned them that a dangerous star was about to fall and urged them to hurry to the bog to cover their bodies with mud.
Before long, when the sun was high, the day suddenly grew brighter. The People all looked up in panic and someone shouted, "Look! A second sun is in the sky!" The new star was growing larger, brighter, and hotter as it hurtled toward them. It became so bright that they had to shield their eyes.
The People who had not covered themselves with mud ran for shelter in terror, but it was too late. The star flew down to Earth and blanketed the world with its long, flowing, glowing tail. Tall trees burst into flame like giant torches, lake and rivers began to boil, and even the rocks glowed and shattered from the heat, as terrible fire swallowed up the entire world.
Then suddenly, when the heat was the greatest and the People in the bog thought even they would surely die, the star climbed back up and moved away from Earth.
After the world cooled down, the mud-covered People cautiously came out of the bog to look around. "

Animals Use Mud to Protect from Sunburn:
Cornell Article: Can animals get a sunburn?
" Animals with very little hair covering such as pigs and their relatives, hippopotamuses and warthogs are particularly at risk and they often coat themselves with mud to act as a sunscreen. Rhinoceroses use the same strategy and elephants give themselves dust-baths. "
Animals may use mud and dust as protection or a type of glue stitching for wounds.
Some animals like chinchillas roll in dust to clean their fur, or feathers if they are birds. This helps remove oil, dirt, and parasites

Natural Fiber Mats and Clothing and Fishing Traps and Line :
"In ancient times there were two suns. If one went down, the other went on. Since the rising of one sun and the setting of the other always happened within a day, there was no night. It was always brighter day, and the people suffered severely from the great heat. Seeds were sown in the fields, but the seeds did not grow because of the heat. Man ¨was forced to weave protective mats to protect the fields from the rays of the sun."
These could be made from fibrous plants like cattails and by hand, no tools required, should one find themselves in a survival situation. However, many fibrous plants that grows native in your own region could be used for many of the material goods listed here.
